Creating a floor plan is not as easy as it sounds, but it’s a good and unique chance you have ahead of you. If you are good with technology
The best and easiest way is to do it using computer programs like SketchUp. This is the best program to make a layout, and see how your furniture will look inside, and make a floor plan the way you like it. There are other tools like FloorPlaner, SmartDraw, Planner 5D, and HomeByMe that you can try out. They are all free which is a piece of great news! Take your time and with the measurements you have, you can make an accurate model of your new home. Simply add everything you are planning to bring and move things around. That way you can see how everything looks without having to move things around 10 times to see in person. Once you decide what you like you can simply ask movers to put heavy furniture where you wanted.
Creating a floor plan old-school
You don’t have to be amazing with all those programs in order to create a floor plan. You can do this the old-fashioned way. Get paper, a ruler, and pencils and start making a model. This is how people did it before we started using computer programs and apps. But beware, this is not as easy as it looks, you have to be very precise and programs are actually easier to use than making this on paper. If you are an architect or in a similar line of work it will be easy for you. But for the rest – it might be a bit hard.
Creating a floor plan can be learned
We are talking about programs like SketchUp here. It’s not hard to learn this just like it’s not hard to learn how to improve your home. Watch some tutorials first and then try on your own. Or try some easier programs (take your pick from the ones we suggested). You do not need any special talent or skill to learn to work with those programs. This is not the case when it comes to making it manually. There are schools for that!
The alternative
The alternative to creating a floor plan is to bring everything you own into your new place and move things around. Furniture and other heavy items too. Doesn’t sound so fun right? That’s why you should give those apps a chance. Your back will thank you for it one day.
